Concept

Quiet, deep, and the night drawn slowly. A dim room, a slow breath, and the city switched off.

Light spills through a wooden lattice set into a coffered ceiling. Olive sofas line a room of wood and plaster; a round latticed window glows softly from within. A small brass lamp lays down shadows, and smoke lifts from a shisha on a glass base. A wa-modern room, and quiet time around a bowl. This is W Sheeshark's first location in Japan; the original house is in Shanghai. Staff speak Mandarin, Shanghainese, Cantonese and English. The venue calls itself a lounge, a restaurant and a bar; shisha, drinks and pricing are as listed on the menu. No one under twenty.

The room

A curved sofa, one small light.

A wide view of the lounge — striped armchairs and low wooden tables with rattan lamps, banquettes along the wall, the bar counter at the back, a rust-toned panel and a woven wall hanging

Atmosphere

Under the coffered ceiling — banquettes, striped chairs, one framed panel.

The room

Wa-modern, in the shape of night. Lattice ceiling, plaster walls, one window that glows.

    Say what you like

Sweet, cool, heavy. Say quietly which way you want it to go.

  2. 02

    The blend

In general, several tobaccos are combined into the flavour of one bowl.

  3. 03

    The draw

Slower and deeper than usual. Taste it through the scent, not the lungs.
